My knowledge about coaching and the process changed, specifically about the process and which I have to follow. I learned the actual meaning of coaching, which was totally different from my experience. My understanding was that coaching is giving support and advice when it’s needed or not, depending on my own experience and knowledge. However, coaching is all about the client itself. As a coach, I will partner with the client on his journey to take him to his desired goal by following the correct coaching process.
One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned as a coach is that a client’s goal isn’t always what it seems. By delving deeper into the session and using the right questions, positive body language, and mirroring the client’s voice, tone, and speech pattern, I’ve been able to guide them to explore their unconscious thoughts. But perhaps the most powerful tool in this process is empathy, which allows me to truly understand and connect with my clients.
As a coach, I have to work on the unconscious side, as this is what I am coaching for.
In certain situations, I have to use the client’s name to connect the client more deeply with himself, where he can describe the situation from a different angle.
To be a good coach, it is very important to be transformed and transactional. This will allow me to think deeper about my client’s behavior and see the unseen and unsaid thoughts and words. Reframing was a new understanding for me where I had to reframe what the client was saying, but in a way, the client could not see the other side of the situation or the emotions he experienced.
Throughout this activity, I was able to read and sense the unsaid words, which gave me a deeper picture of that particular person and what they might have experienced, which made them link their values, beliefs, and behaviors.
I had to run a full coaching session with another coach, where I had to be a coach in the first round and a client in the second round.
During round one, I played the role of a coach for a real topic. It was a great experience where I made sure to follow the coaching principles and process. I covered all the areas, and it went very well. There were moments when I engaged deeply with my client and visualized the client’s situation where, for a moment, I had to remember what to ask next and what the appropriate question which I have to ask, which allowed me to know my focus area, which I have to practice more and have the ability to ask different question pattern.
