The wiring of humans is emotions.

A few months ago I read these lines: “Anybody can become angry – that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way – that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy.”

It captivated me instantly, and every time I read these lines, it becomes more convincing to ponder over the various emotions we go through and our reaction to it. It is not a life and death situation all the time, though we make it or react to it to look like it in certain situations when such a reaction isn’t even demanded by the situation.

Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee/ glass of water which you had no control on the reaction:
1. Do you curse her? Harshly scold her for knocking it up, and she breaks down in tears.
Or
2. You gently say: It’s ok darling, you just need to be more careful next time, so that you don’t harm yourself and others around you.

The reaction is purely decided by being aware of our emotions, control on the emotional state leading to better judgment, if it was a serious concern to be dramatic about it, or could be a learning opportunity for those involved in the situation. The wiring of humans is emotions. Hence, it makes it more important to learn about them, understand them better for us and others around us.

Being part of this program of “Emotional Intelligence” is a start of an incredible journey that Dr. Haris will take the group through, and I can say that with great confidence as I have been a part of a couple of other programs before this with CTA. His thought-provoking mannerism makes the subject even more intriguing, and that defines his style of facilitation.

It was a session with an immense amount of learning, starting with the difference between knowledge and knowing. To learn that knowledge is acquired and knowing is experiencing, was a stimulating discussion to go further.

Without realizing or understanding if the story we make is resourceful or not resourceful – it was a great learning point that Dr. Haris made there, and can be used in coaching discussions with those clients who tend to be all over the place in terms of emotions.

As a closing note, I must say, Emotional intelligence is truly defined in this quote: Anybody can become angry – that is easy, but to be angry with the right person and to the right degree and at the right time and for the right purpose, and in the right way –that is not within everybody’s power and is not easy – Aristotle
