Definition of Team Coaching

Mostly associated with sports activities, the approach and ideology of a corporate team coach are different from athletics. Team coaching can be defined as, “the process of assisting a team to improve its performance and productivity, which is achieved through coordinated dialogue and self-reflection.” (David Clutterbuck)

In the book “Coaching, Mentoring, and Organizational Consultancy: Supervision and Development” by Hawkins and Smith, the term team coaching has been further elaborated as, “the process of empowering a team to work as a unit towards a particular mission or objective while improving the internal and external relationships. It focuses more on the unified purpose and role of the team towards its execution.”
